The Politically Astute Manager
Description
This workshop focuses on the skill, theory-based knowledge, and self-awareness to use politics as a tool for meaningful change. Politically astute leaders advocate, protect, and promote unit effectiveness. They meet with people from outside the unit to represent, negotiate, market, and act as a liaison/spokesperson. A politically astute leader fully understands and utilizes the organization's formal and informal systems, with particular attention to working effectively with superiors and key actors that influence the system. The individual keeps current with external issues relevant to the leader's organization. These topics and others will be explored in a highly interactive format that emphasizes dialogue and reflective thinking. Participants will be engaged in facilitated discussions based on short readings, group exercises, case analyses that come from everyday experience.
